Heart disease symptoms

As with the causes of heart disease, the symptoms of heart disease vary according to which specific condition you have. Even for one condition the symptoms may vary from person to person. For example, a symptom of heart attack may be chest pain and chest heaviness, but not everyone experiences this. Women experience a heart attack differently from men and may not be aware that the symptoms that they're experiencing are serious. Some people experience nausea or sweating as well, or instead, among other symptoms.

Some symptoms are common to more than one form of heart disease so it's not possible to know what condition you have without seeing your doctor for further testing. High blood pressure is a symptom you won't even know you have unless your doctor checks you for it.

Symptoms of heart disease are not always dramatic. In fact, some symptoms can seem very minor, and they may come and go. This doesn't mean heart disease isn't always a serious condition. If you experience any symptoms you should see a doctor, even if the symptoms go away.

You and your family members should be aware of all the symptoms of stroke, myocardial infarction, transient ischemic attack, and aneurysm, and what to do if they occur. These conditions require immediate emergency medical care.
